The Slide show above shows some shots of Betty in her habitat at Wheaton and some studio shots of the piece being installed and in the studio.
"Betty" was inspired during my second residency at Wheaton Arts in 2011. Hank Adams, artistic director, was in the garden and found Betty, a gorgeous black widow spider, on his arm. He gifted her in a mason jar to the fellows. We made a home for her between my space and Erica Rosenfeld's space where she became something of awe, fear, and respect. She was pregnant and had about 400 babies.
