The Agnes Varis Commission was completed October 2013. It is a permanent work at Urban Glass in Brooklyn NY honoring Agnes Varis.
The background is constructed using 1000 water-jet cut white glass letters. These letters are 2" tall and 1/8" thick. There is 3 layers of letters that is constructed using hxtal adhesive. The background floats 2 inches from the wall.
The AV, Agnes Varis, and Quote are also made from waterjet cut glass however they consist of multiple layers of glass laminated together and then cut.
The inspiration for the design comes from the section of the quote, "what is woven". I began to think about ideas of what woven can mean. Inspired from its meanings- various elements to form a whole and to be woven is a layering of information I took the basic symbols of our language to build from. I believed that it is important for this piece to be a clean timeless design that will hold to the length that it will be installed in the space and that it must be subtle but bold.
